So, you’re a small business owner and you want to maximize on every avenue possible to get people noticing your website and bring more business your way. You know the different social networking sites, and even have profiles on a few of them. You post from time to time, but it doesn’t seem to be generating a ton of traffic. What are you missing?
You’re probably missing a key aspect that most people don’t think about. With all of the expansions made in marketing, including social networking, SEO, YouTube and more, people are forgetting that the main and most noteworthy form of marketing is word of mouth. This is no different when you’re conducting web-based marketing for your web-based business. Your main focus should be to get your website to a buzz worthy status, and there are some strategies that should help you get all of the right people talking about your business and your website. The quicker you begin to think in these terms, the quicker you’ll head your business into a buzz-worthy internet status, providing you more traffic, more leads, and more sales.
1. Who You Know
The first thing you need to understand is that you want to get the right people backing your business and your website. This can easily be coupled with your SEO back-linking scheme by appealing to influential, web-based people that are either in your niche, or a related niche. You want them to respect you and vouch for you, and you want them to offer you an opportunity to guest post on their blog, or you want them to review your website and products and recommend your business to their readers. This is a great way to create a buzz, because if the major leagues are buzzing about you, everyone else will soon follow.
2. Gaining Respect: Help Others
Pick a group on Facebook that’s in relation to your business, and whenever you find someone in that group posting a question or inquiry, help them. Offer answers and don’t bombard this group with sales tactics. As a matter of fact, you shouldn’t even advertise your website for the first few weeks of acquiring relationships with the people in the group. You can have a link to your website on your page and in your information, but your interaction with group members should simply involve building relationships and helping others, and the rest will come.
3. Getting Noticed: Be Innovative And Brave
Boring people don’t attract anyone, and followers don’t attract followers. That being said, you’ll need to keep in mind to be a leader, be innovative, and do something new and challenging. Put it out there for everyone to see. The novelty can be in your branding or it can be in your product, but either way, you need something that will have your business standing out from all of the others that can otherwise be described as similar.
4. Keeping Relationships: Be Consistent
This can be closely related to most music artists that eventually fall off of the billboards. It’s not always because the population stops liking their music. More often, it’s because the music artists stray from their brand image and style, and their loyal fans stop being so loyal, because they feel betrayed. Think of your loyal customers in the same light. Build relationships with these people, and figure out what it is about your business that they like so much. Stick to that for two reasons:
- To keep those loyal customers coming back
- To keep those loyal customers talking about your business when they tell their friends and family what they did that day
5. Appreciate What You Have
This rule is something that people think is cliché when it comes to everyday life, but most people underestimate it in business. It was touched on in the last point, but just to be sure you all understand the importance of this point, you need to be sure to appreciate the customers that you have. Your most loyal customers will talk about your website the most, and spend the most money on your business. A customer that spends hundreds of dollars or several hours of time on your website is more important than a new customer that may or may not make one to five purchases. Be sure to appreciate those who show you they appreciate your website and business. Offer them deals and contests, and recognize them for what they’ve done for you. Not only will this keep them around, but again, it will keep them talking about your website and your business.
Take these pointers to heart, and be sure to use them every day when conducting your web marketing campaigns. It’s a great way to build mutually valuable relationships with plenty of people, and get your website noticed among hundreds or thousands of people.
